A new way to reintroduce FODMAP trigger foods: the FODZYME ramp-up protocol

You are in the right place if you already suspect or know which FODMAPs trigger your symptoms. First, congratulations — you probably completed a difficult re-challenging phase where you reintroduced FODMAP-containing trigger foods one by one to see if they cause symptoms.

At this point, you should be familiar with the main FODMAP groups:

  • Lactose
  • Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS)
  • Fructan/fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS)
  • Polyols (e.g. sorbitol, mannitol)

Up until now, once you identified your trigger FODMAPs you had 2 options: either avoid them or deal with the consequences. With FODZYME, you have a third option.

What is FODZYME and how do enzymes work?

FODZYME® is the world's first enzyme blend to directly tackle the FODMAPs fructan, GOS, and lactose. If you are wondering about polyols, we are working on a novel polyol-targeting enzyme as we speak. Our enzymes are very specialized proteins produced by micro-organisms that break down specific substrates, in this case, FODMAP molecules.

For example, our novel inulinase enzyme breaks down inulin, the subtype of fructan that is found in common foods we consume like garlic, onion, beetroot, bananas, dates, zucchini, etc. It is paramount for the enzymes to be well incorporated into the food so they can reach the FODMAP substrates as soon as possible, before they trigger symptoms in the lower GI tract. This is why we first developed our product as a powder, which is the most effective form for the enzymes to homogenize quickly with the food in your gut.

The FODZYME Ramp-up Protocol

Reintroducing foods that you know cause symptoms can leave you anxious so let us help you face the fear with our structured approach. Here is how we recommend you introduce FODZYME in your dietary habits:

While executing this protocol, we recommend you avoid consuming other FODMAPs/trigger foods to ensure validity.
  1. Start Small: start using 1/4 teaspoon of FODZYME on a small serving of suspected/known trigger foods.
  2. Washout Period: depending on how you feel, let your system recover for a day or two.
  3. Medium Serving: If you felt fine after the small serving, try with 1/4 teaspoon of FODZYME on a medium serving of trigger food.
  4. Washout Period: depending on how you feel, let your system recover for a day or two.
  5. Full Serving: If you felt fine after the medium serving, congratulations! Feel free to repeat the 1/4 FODZYME dose with a full serving of the trigger food.
